World Skills - UK Final Body Painting

The brief was Alien Metamorphosis. I had to use a bald cap and at least two different prosthetic pieces. I wanted to have a winged effect and for the model to look as if she was emerging out of a cocoon. The plan was to wrap the model in Plasti-Cap material to achieve this, but on the day I didn't like the overall look, as it covered most of the body, I had just spent 2.5 hours painting. I had just minutes left of competition so I quickly improvised and attached pieces to the model as wings.

The inspiration was from Nakamura's provoking 3D Robot drawing. The gorgeous detail and lighting work, really led me to use the same kind of gold for the prosthetic facial piece. Excellently modelled and rendered, the image strikes you with its ‘realness’ – one can unwillingly have the willys watching the spiders, wasps and insects hiving on human’s face! So surreal! Unfortunately I had just 4 days to model in clay and then cast the prosthetic piece, I would have loved to have had the time, to make each creepy crawly individually, instead I used rubber insects from a children's toy shop, and sprayed them gold.

Winner of the World Skills - UK Final

 photo WorldSkillsimagejpegcopy_zps4ac117db.jpg

I have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to update any of my posts. I have several in draft format, and promise to finish them up as soon as I can. This includes the whole process it took from design to casting the models face ready to make the prosthetic piece. I will have these done as soon as I possibly can as I know that some people would love to see how to cast a prosthetic, and also see where my inspiration came from.

I am so proud that I came first and to be honest I wasn't expecting it.

UK Skills - World Skills Body Painting Reginal Competition

I have finally found out the date for the Body Painting Competition. The theme is inside the human body. I have a week to design and execute the whole thing. Giving me 5 days in total. I am very nervous to say the least.

I have found lots of images for body painting and inside the body and it's page after page of very good and interesting pieces all variations of what someone has done before. With the odd exception.

I didn't want to fall into the trap of panting the inside of the body on the outside. I already had a cast of my models eye socket for the AHT competition in Blackpool. I had designed the eye to look as if it had been stitched together as I had wanted the result to be a broken down doll.

Prosthetic Competition - Theme - Science Fiction

This is my entry, I came 3rd and was very pleased with the result. It was my first attempt at prosthetic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was cast in foam latex, and the fur was added before fitting to the model.
